KASILOF RIVER FISHING

King Salmon of Alaska:

The Kasilof River is the best kept secret in Alaska; located just minutes from the world famous Kenia River, the Kasilof River boast a massive King Salmon fishery. Unlike the Kenai River, the Kasilof River is a drift boat only river with no motors allowed. This limits the number of boats and the boat activity. Most guides and lodges want to fish on the Kenai River so they can run more then one trip per day per boat. This is not possible on the Kasilof River; this river is a packed with fish and relaxation, not the hustle and crowds of the Kenai River.

The Kasilof King Salmon, range from 20 to 40 pounds, and with our light tackle rods they can put up a giant fight. Our Kasilof river guides will put you right on top of the fish. The high success rate and unstoppable action of Kasilof River fishing has made this trip a favorite among our guests!

On the Kasilof River we operate only the best boats manufactured by Fish-Rite Boats. Our drift boats are 19x66 and easily seat four fisherman and your guide. Our drift boats have level floors plenty of room to move around in and, a built in boat heater for those cool mornings. We will take you down the "drift-only" area of the Kasilof River and do our best to put you on the fish.

The Kasilof River King Salmon season is a good one; many of our guest will chose two days on the river and one day on the ocean out of Seward, the heart of Alaska.

The Alaska King Salmon Season:

First Run in Middle May to Late June blasts full of the famous Alaska King Salmon! Anglers can expect Kings averaging 20 to 40 pounds charging up the Kasilof. These salmon are primarily return hatchery fish, and are among the best tasting Spring Chinook salmon found in Alaskan waters.

Second Run Late June to July 31st with a solid rush of trophy-class King Salmon with an average weight of 35 to 50 pounds or bigger! Please remember, the Kasilof River is not like that of the Kenai River where hundreds of fishing guides are hosted. The Kasilof is only home to about one dozen guides on the whole river. This best kept secret of the Kenai is your ticket to great fishing and one with the peaceful nature of Alaska.

May 16th to June 30th, 2 per day/2 in possession, only 1 may be a wild salmon recognized by the presence of the adipose fin (fish with an adipose fin may be kept only Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays) July 1 to July 31, 1 per day/1 in possession. Wild/Hatchery kings can be kept in July. Five kings per season.

With her amazing water color, scenery and lack of crowds, the Kasilof River is your best best for King Salmon fishing on the Kenai Peninsula. We would be happy to get you hook on the Kasilof River.

Below are some pictures that the Seward Fish Company has caught on the river

Sockeye Salmon Fishing

The Russian River has one of the best Sockeye Salmon Run’s in Alaska, and the hike is one of our customer’s favorite parts of their trips.

The Russian River is a 13-mile-long river on the Kenai Peninsula . It flows northward from Upper Russian Lake in the Kenai Mountains through Lower Russian Lake, draining into the Kenai River.

Like the Kenai, the Russian River is famous for its fishing, especially for salmon. There are two runs of sockeye salmon each year, in mid-June and mid-July, plus a run of silver salmon starting in July.

Many people also visit this area to visit the Russian River Falls and Weir,  watching and photographing the sockeye and other species of salmon that 'leap' the falls on their upstream migration. Others yet, come not to fish, but simply to watch those that are!

The Seward Fish Company offers hike-In access from the Russian River Campground. It is a 2.4 mile hike with an easy access trail. This is an easy hike, more like a nice walk. This area is far away from the Russian-Kenai River confluence. The confluence is where the “Combat” fishing is; we stay far away from that.

The Russian River is easily accessed from Moose Pass, where our Trail Lake Lodge is. For those wishing to stay at the Russian River Campground, reservations are essential during much of the season. Visit http://www.recreation.gov/ for reservations and more info. Other Chugach National Forest campground choices in the Cooper Landing area include Quartz Creek, Crescent Creek and Cooper Creek Campgrounds.
