Columbia Springer Fishing

Just got back from a few days in Portland fishing in the Northwest Sportfishing Industry Association/Fisherman's Marine & Outdoor spring Chinook derby.
I fished with Buzz Ramsey of Yakima Bait Co. Buzz's brother caught the third place fish, which was just 5 ounces out of first place. It was 15 pounds (Columbia River springers tend to run 10 to 12 pounds). Also on the boat was Terry Otto (an outdoor writer from Portland) and Buzz's nephew Jason.
We hooked three springers on Friday and had to throw one back because it was wild. We hooked two yesterday. All the fish were taken on plug-cut herring, trolled between I-5 and I-205 near the airport (42nd Street ramp). Most of the fish were hooked right in front of the docks at Donaldson's Marina.
Fishing was only fair, so should be good by next weekend judging by the good fishing between Astoria and St. Helens the last few days.
Got some great video on the new HD camera and will post those soon to You Tube.
